There are a group of people think that advertising has a great benefit, while there are people have an opposite opinion. Everything has two sides of opinion, which can be good or bad. Media advertising share the same goal which is to reach as many users as possible and convince them to buy certain products. They all use the same strategy to achieve this, but some are more effective than others. However, there are growing concerns about some companies use unethical methods of advertising that have harmful effects on society. This is almost all companies do to attract their consumer. They advertise only good thing about the product without telling bad things about the product. This is how the advertisement work today. Admittedly, advertising is all around us in our daily lives, from rural to urban, from work to home. It is becoming more popular in this modern world, especially in business industry. As I said before, the purpose of advertising media is to reach as many consumer as possible. At present, many advertising represents wrong information. This is because, most of the advertising media show the quality of product but after buying the product the user is aware that it does not have the characteristics shown in advertising. The important thing is, do they make good advertising to the public. For example chocolate product, Cadbury. Most of the Cadbury chocolate product show that happiness went eat their chocolate. However, do they tell the public that the effect that you will get on your body. That you will get a lot of disease. Such as diabetes, heart attack and cavities. This is how the advertisement work, they only advertise a good things until the consumers will not notice the effect that they will get. The other things that companies do to their advertisement is that their advertising will make the public to spend their money that they should not spend it. Now there are various ways for companies to promote their products and services, from simple brochures to television advertising. For example, when we watch a Youtube video on internet, we will see the advertisement before or middle of the video. Similarly, if we watch the latest movie in cinema, well see a product that is put on film so often. This means that we, as a public who watch a lot of advertisement, will tend to be very influenced by the advertising to buy their product without thinking very well. At this time I cannot said that advertisements are a positive to our lives. This is because most of advertisements are not good to view to all public. I should mention some of the weaknesses come from this point. In fact, the goal of most businesses is to maximize profits, hence on advertising their products often exaggerated to sell the items as much as possible. This can cause people to want something unnecessary or useless. Another problem is the control of advertising aimed at children who have little experience or knowledge, if it does not have adverse effects on future generations. For example an illustration of chocolate advertisements. For example Cadbury product, they use cute costume on their advertising. This will make an encourage children to watch and they will possible to get that chocolate. This chocolate advertisements will encourage children to spend a lot of money to buy a chocolate product. This will effects the health of children. Without the control of their food , they will get a lot of disease when they become older. It is not easy to decide how to regulate advertising. Obviously, the government should limit advertising for dangerous products such as alcohol, tobacco and many more. However, the government does not have the power to control all the type of advertising. This means that people should have to use their logical minds when they go to the shops, and think whether they really need to buy that product or not. Parents are the responsible person to take control their children. They should be the responsible to make sure that their children being protected from too much exposure to advertising. This can mean only explain that it is not actually need to buy a lot of chocolate, or parents can turning off the television to prevent their children exposure to advertising. For example, when children watch a lot of chocolate advertisement, they will likely want to buy that chocolate every time they watch that advertisement. That mean, their parentââ¬â¢s need to control how they exposure with the advertisement. If their parent not doing so, they will have to spent a lot of money to buy a chocolate because their children need it so much. The only thing that companies do for their advertising is to increase their sales and win customers. This means that companies pour a significant amount of money into advertising. Most of the time, its not about the function or quality of the materials themselves but actually promote a good feeling to have that product. This means that the collaboration of the hiring celebrities as the face of their products. They put a famous actor in television commercials to promote their product. For example, Cadbury use Cecil Aldin to appearing on Cadbury advertising. This actor was popular back in 1900 ago. However Snickers use Mr.Bean, the popular comedian in this century to appearing on Snickers advertisement. This will make sales increased significantly since young children, as they like to target users with celebrities. Furthermore, most people buy products that are not useful to them when they watch a commercials because it only reflects their favourite actor or actress even though they do not need it. Advertising is always shown on different types of media, which sometimes annoys some viewers. For example, advertising on television. Typically, each show entertainment on television has several breaks that lasted about five minutes. During these commercials breaks, viewers have to watch a lot of commercials that annoy them and have put on hold to enjoy their favourite shows. The question here is whether those advertising is important to notice or not. Most people put it down to the station he wanted to extend the show with some advertising, but most people see that advertising is on the screen for the benefit of advertisers. Most of people just want watch their favourite show without any kind of interruption of commercial advertising. Moreover, in these cases, the person in front of the small screen, they will not only want heed any advertising flash on the screen, but they also want advertisers will stop making a profit with their promotion on television. On the other hand, there is always the flip side of the coin. To begin with, some of advertisement has positive effect. To confirm this point of view, let put forth some specific logic. For example, by watching advertisements people always remain update on new product. Such as, when Cadbury Company launch new chocolate products, they will put advertisement on television so, the public can know which new chocolate products recently launched. This mean, the Cadbury Company will show all the feature in advertising, as a result the public will know very well about their new chocolate products before purchasing it and save their time. It also means that advertising plays an important role in the growth of the business because the company cannot show off their products without advertising their products. That mean, with advertisement the public will obtain information about new product by advertisement. The conclusion is that, we as civilians cannot escape advertising. However, children also should be encouraged not to pay too much attention to it. The power of advertising maybe over-rated. As we can see, we cannot deny that the final decision is on the hands of consumers. No matter how attractive advertisement is, people will be able to make their own decisions. Memory, Aging, and the I-function Folk wisdom has long noted that as individuals age, they experience decline in memory performance such that many accept cognitive decline and even "senility" as normal affects of aging, along with graying hair and wrinkled skin. The effects of time on the brain in humans is more complex than simple gradual decay until one shuffles off the mortal coil, as it were. The implications of memory loss, and cases in which cognitive function does not decline, has implications for our understanding of how memory works in general, the treatment of debilitating diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease, and for the role of the "I-function" in learning and recollection. Memory, in general, can be broken down into different forms, being divided according to the functions it serves and the duration for which it holds. Neurobiologically, to qualify as a "memory," an input must both "cause enduring changes in the nervous system, and be affected by emotional and motivational 'sets'" (1).What is meant in that description is that a memory has to have some root in the brain, must induce some change so that the nervous system undergoes some physical change in addition to the ontological change brought about by being in the class of things affected by the input, and must, in turn, affect other forms of behavior. No memories are ever neutral from a behavioral standpoint. The main functional division among memories is between so-called ""declarative" and "procedural" memories. Culture and Religion in Malaysia
Malaysia is a multicultural society, with Malays, Chinese and Indians living side by side. The Malays are the largest community. They are Muslims and speak Bahasa. Malays mainly control the political power in Malaysia. The Chinese comprise about a third of the population. They are Buddhists and Taoists, speak Hokkein, Hakka and Cantonese, and are dominant in the business community. The Indians account for about 10% of the population. They are mainly Hindu Tamils from southern India. They speak Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi, and live mainly in the larger towns on the west coast of the peninsula. Eurasians and indigenous tribes make up the remaining population. Iban of Sarawak is the main indigenous tribe of Malaysia. They number around 3, 95,000. They are largely longhouse dwellers and live along the Rejang and Baram rivers. The Bidayuh (107,000) are concentrated on Sarawak's Skrang River. The Orang Asli (80,000) live in small scattered groups in Peninsular Malaysia. The tribals were mainly nomadic agriculturists but gradually they are being absorbed in the modern Malaysian society. The traditional architectural style of Malaysia is the long-house, found particularly along the rivers of Sarawak. Families live together (though they have their own private space) in one long building, raised on stilts, sharing the open verandah which runs the whole length of the building. Also raised on stilts are the wooden houses in other parts of rural Malaysia. These stilt-houses are around two meters above the ground to protect against floods and wild animals, while providing extra ventilation and also shelter for the family's domestic animals. The style of the houses varies from region to region, the most famous being the saddle-shaped roofs, which rise up into what are known as ââ¬Å"buffalo hornsâ⬠. A third style of home common in Malaysia is the Chinese ââ¬Å"shop-houseâ⬠where the ground floor is a shop, with the family living above. Malaysian music is heavily influenced by Chinese and Islamic forms. The music is based largely around the gendang (drum), but includes percussion instruments (some made of shells), flutes, trumpets and gongs. The country has a strong tradition of dance and dance dramas. Some of them are of Thai, Indian and Portuguese origin. Other artistic forms include wayang kulit (shadow-puppets), silat (a stylised martial art) and crafts such as batik, weaving and silver and brasswork. Religion: More than half of the population (52%) follows Islam. Other religions followed in Malaysia are Buddhism, Daoism, Hinduism, Christianity, and Sikhism. In addition Shamanism is practiced in East Malaysia.

A. P. )was to review the benefits of family involvement for children. For the purpose of this L. A. P. I am going to summarize some of the expectations that families and teachers have of each other, and what potential benefits of family involvement have on at risk high school dropout students.Some of the questions I am attempting to address are: why are African American and Latino students dropping out of high school at an astounding rate? Is there any difference when students get greater attention from advocate- counselors, and smaller class room sizes? And what are the expectations that families and teacher have on each other? In this Life arts project I focused on the impact of families and teachers involvement in high school drop outs. Literature ReviewWhat initiatives are in place to prevent high school students from dropping out of school? Researcher has found that three out of ten Latino students dropout of high school, and one out of five African American students has also dropout out of high school. Understanding and addressing the issues surrounding students who drop out of high school is a continuous concern and pressing issues in school districts around the country. Over the past 20 years, the high school dropout rate has declined. (Center for Labor Market Studies, 2009 Cited in Featherston, B.Carl, 2010) Some of the research has been done through qualitative methods, while other research was conducted using questionnaires and more quantitative methods. High school drop out rate has decreased from 14. 1 in 1980 to 8. 0 in 2008 (US Department of Education, 2010) for example, this is the case for African American and Latino students. The amount of African Am erican students dropping out of school between the age of 16-24 also decreased from 19. 1 percent rate from 1980 to a 9. 0 in 2008, and decreased have also been demonstrated by Latino students, 35. percent rate in 1980 to a 18. 2 in 2008, (US Department of Education, 2010) These alarming high school dropout rates have pushed researchers and practitioners alike to distinguish the contributing factors causing students to drop out of high school. (Featherston 2010) Reflective Analysis When I was a high school student, I myself (being of African American descent) was an at risk student on the verge of dropping out of school. If not for my Micro system support team, ââ¬Å"Micro system- A concept associated with Bronfenbrennersââ¬â¢ ecological theory.The micro system includes social systems closest to childââ¬â¢s daily life, such as the classroom teacher and home. â⬠(Coleman 2013), I might have not succeeded in obtaining a high school diploma. ââ¬Å"Understanding and address ing issues surrounding students who drop out of high school is a continuous concern and pressing issue in districts around the country. Over the past 20 years, the high school dropout rate has declined, but African Americans and Latinos still have the highest dropout rates in the countryâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦. â⬠(Center for labor Market Studies, 2009)Contributing Factors Many of us are concerned with the fact that there are little job in our economy today, despite the fact that unemployment is at an all time high; todayââ¬â¢s young people are having a difficult time finding jobs. The competition is rough, and for young people with out high school diplomas are even rougher. Why do students drop out of high schools? Here are some contributing factors, and preventive method addressing academic achievement. ââ¬Å"Many issues surrounding the decision to dropping out of school stems beyond the students immediate grasp.Among these factors are academic achievement, socio economic status, and student behavior. Student engagement is facilitated by all of these factors and gives a clear view as into why students drop out of high school. â⬠(Featherston, 2010) Another contributing factor was that my family was a vulnerable family. In this course we learned that Vulnerable Families are families, who, because of their life circumstances, experience financial, emotional, and physical stress that can impair their functioning and well-being.The two examples used in our course books were, homeless families and working-poor families. At times we where both, along with no money to pay bills, we would find our self moving from home to home. Sometimes living with extended family members (by the way, you ever heard of the saying ââ¬Å"theirs no place like home) well that saying is absolutely true!!!! So without adding the details, you could clearly see why I had to grow up so fast at an early age, and man up, which contributed to my failing grades. One of the major causes of students dropping out of high school is the accumulation of failing marks. Studies show that academic failure has the greatest impact on a studentââ¬â¢s decision to drop out of schoolâ⬠(Suh, Suh, 2007) In my experience as a teacher assistant, at the alternative high school, for the City of New Rochelleââ¬â¢s Board of Education, I have seen many students dropout of school. If fact academic achievement is one of the leading reason studentââ¬â¢s dropout at the institution I am affiliated with.In my opinion, student behavior is affiliated with poor academic behavior, which I think is a result for students being put out of school, or dropping out of school. To illustrate, when I was in high school, I failed to do homework, or take notes in class, obviously I was lost when it came to the course martial. I said to myself, whatââ¬â¢s the point of coming to class if I donââ¬â¢t understand the class work. I could blame my parents for not staying together for the benefit o f their children, but my parents broke up a long time ago, and I was the man of the house, being the oldest of three siblings.I toke this responsibility on, all by myself, and my mother who work long days, long nights, and occasionally on the weekend would be a weekend drunk, had vary little input when it came to making sure we went to school etcâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦.. ââ¬Å"Shared factors associated with academic failure were the limited educational enrichment resources. â⬠(Suh, Suh, 2007) Being the oldest of three siblings meant I had to share the responsibility with my mom, on keeping the family together. This meant getting my two younger rother up and ready for school each day, bathing and feeding them, etcâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦.. Being the oldest meant, at an early age, I understood about the financial responsibilities that my mom was having a difficult time with. I learned how to be a man from men in my community (tie a tie, work for your money, etcâ⬠¦.. ), and I understood only money could help my mom in her situation. So I began to look in my community for ways I could get money to help the family progress, and be healthy. As a youth I had plenty of jobs, which consisted of working long hour at night and on the weekend.This definitely had an impact on my academic achievements, which resulted in me getting bad grades. Certainly I fell so far behind, that I felt, I was stupid. So I did everything under the sun (bullying, cutting class, not coming to school for academicââ¬â¢s, but showing up for football practice) to divert attention away from my academicââ¬â¢s issues. I already had a plan, if I was ever confronted with the fact that I was a troublemaker, I would quiet, and I just needed a reason. Benefit of family involvementThere is limited amount of research on the benefits of family involvement for families themselves. Nevertheless, Coleman has reasonably hypothesize at least five benefits that should result when teachers and families collabo rate to honor each othersââ¬â¢ expectations and share responsibility for educating, socializing, and protecting children. (Coleman 2013), Parentsââ¬â¢ knowledge of child development, schools sometime publish flyers to educate families about the physical, mental, and social ââ¬Å"readiness skillsâ⬠. Coleman 2013), Example, family participation practice can boost parentsââ¬â¢ knowledge of child development and in turn, provide them with better insight into their childrenââ¬â¢s classroom performance. Parenting skills, teachers support childrenââ¬â¢s development and education not only in the classroom but also by responding to parentsââ¬â¢ questions and concerns about their childrenââ¬â¢s behavior. (Coleman 2013), example, parents sometimes ask for help in addressing what they perceive to be unusual childhood behavior or a behavior that is out of character for their child.Parents may also ask for help in to such requests benefits children and families in the s hort and long term (knopf & Swick, 2008 cited in Coleman 2013). Parentsââ¬â¢ Self-Confidence as Advocated for their Children, to form a truly collaborative family-teacher partnership, parents need the self-confidence to advocate for their childrenââ¬â¢s education and general welfare (Hoover-Dempsey, Bassler,& Brissie, 1992; Hoover- Dempsey & Sander, 1995, 1997, cited in Coleman 2013) Colman states that as a teacher, you can strengthen parentsââ¬â¢ self-confidence by their childrenââ¬â¢s development and education.Also teachers should remind parents of how they contribute to their childrenââ¬â¢s well being by listening to their concerns and answering their questionsâ⬠¦.. (Coleman 2013) Parentsââ¬â¢ Creativity, Coleman talks about family strategies provides opportunities to keep parents engaged in their childrenââ¬â¢s learning experiences. They also stimulate parentsââ¬â¢ creativity in promoting their childrenââ¬â¢s emerging skills at home and in the comm unity.Higher educational aspirations, with support, children are able to live up to their parentsââ¬â¢ academic expectation (Fan & Chen, 2001, cited in Coleman 2013) Family involvement can contribute to positive outcome and decrease at risk student behavior by increasing parentââ¬â¢s self- confidence and creativity in helping their children develop the skills and motivation needed to stay in school. Benefits of family involvement for teachers As with families, relatively little attention has been devoted to studying the benefits of families involvement for teachers.Nevertheless, Colman identifies at least five potential benefits. Understanding the ââ¬Å"ecological childâ⬠, because of their training, teachers naturally tend to focus on the ââ¬Å"classroom childâ⬠. Only by considering the ââ¬Å"ecological childâ⬠can we truly understand how childrenââ¬â¢s classroom performance is grounded in family and community life. Reflect on this example, cultural macros ystems. One hallmark of socially competent children in high-context cultures (e. g. African American students or Latino students) is their mastery of subtle contextual communication signals (e. g. nonverbal facial and hand gestures) rather than explicit verbalizations(Han & Thomas, 2010, cited in Coleman 2013) children from low- context cultures ( e. g. , United State, Western Europe, Australia) are taught to value just the opposite. They are encouraged to be direct in their verbal communication rather than rely on subtle forms of nonverbal communication. QUESTIONNAIRE I am asking these questions in order to gather information about what happens to students as they move through high school and make decision about what they are going to do after high school.Student at the New Rochelle Alternative High School, where I am employed, were told that their responses will be combined with those of other respondents, and the answers they give will never be identified as their own. Former stu dents who drop out of school and participated in this questionnaire were also told that the answers they give will never be identified as their own. 1) Thinking back to yours in high school, do you remember when you frist thought about leaving school?
